My goal with this blog is to explore ways to make organizations more successful while at the same time being excellent places to work. Through my work around the world, with organizations ranging from small start-ups to major government agencies, I have found that these two objectives are often mutually reinforcing.
How can an organization, which is a collection of people pulled together for a common purpose, grow and prosper if its people are not growing and prospering? Much of the secret to creating such organizations is better management – better management in terms of techniques and systems, knowledge and attitudes, and insightful perspectives that drive actions.
This is one of two blogs I have ownership in. The other can be found at idea-driven.com and is more closely tied to my latest book, The Idea-Driven Organization which I co-authored with Alan Robinson. The entries in The Idea-Driven blog focus on topics related to creating organizations driven by the power of front-line ideas.
While that will also be a major theme in this blog as well, here we intend to be a bit broader, exploring a wider variety of topics related to excellence in management. I will not only share my ongoing research, but from time-to-time will explore new topics and will invite some interesting management thinkers and practitioners to contribute their thoughts and stories.
My hope is that you enjoy the blog and that each entry you read leaves you with a bit more insight and a smile on your face. Good management takes discipline, but it should also be fun.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or to offer ideas for future blog entries.
